Plans for the October 22nd AACA Brushy Mountain Tour are Coming Together!
Below are the details for the East Tennessee Region AACA Brushy Mountain Tour:
Participants will meet at 1:15 PM, Sunday, October 22, in the Kroger parking lot, Westcott Center, Oak Ridge, located at 1550 Oak Ridge Turnpike, at the corner of Illinois Ave. and Oak Ridge Turnpike. We will depart at 1:30 and take the short ride to the prison.
Once there, we will be given an exclusive private tour of the facility. The tour will be conducted by former prison guards. After the tour, we will be provided with a barbeque dinner on the prison grounds.
The cost of the tour and dinner is $30 per person and must be paid in advance. Guests are welcome. Please make out your check to the East Tennessee Region AACA. Mail your check to Roger and Jan Frazee, 4535 Deer Grove Way, Powell TN 37849. Please send your payment no later than Friday, October 6th.
Please be advised that the prison is not yet open to the public. Renovation of the facility is currently in progress. There will be the usual dirt and debris associated with any construction site.
The rest rooms are not finished yet. Porta-johns will be available.
The day’s events will conclude with the barbeque. Upon leaving the prison, those who want more adventure may take Route 116 over Windrock Mountain to the town of Rocky Top. This route is part of the Devil’s Triangle.
